Participants are encouraged to submit abstracts presenting recent research, teaching innovation, or professional applications.
The Symposium Organizing Committee invites contributions of original, computational-based research that advances our understanding of natural hazards and their impacts on the built and human environment. We welcome abstracts across a broad range of natural hazards (hurricanes, earthquakes, tsunamis, flooding, fire, etc.) and domains, addressing overarching themes related to computational simulation workflows, mutli-resolution and multi-fidelity characterization of components and systems, uncertainty quantification, socio-economic impacts, and recovery. Contributions that showcase educational use of state-of-the-art simulation methods for natural hazard engineering are also welcome (see the SimCenter Teaching Gallery for inspiration on sharing innovative classroom activities).
Abstracts that leverage SimCenter tools (e.g., quoFEM, EE/WE/Hydro-UQ, PBE/pelicun, R2D, BRAILS++, etc. ), DesignSafe resources (Data Depot, HPC) and data reuse from RAPID field deployments are encouraged, though any compelling and forward-looking computational research or work will be considered. Submissions should clearly demonstrate how the work advances, employs, or generates data for computational methods to investigate natural hazard events and assess their effects on the built environment and communities.
You may choose to present your work as a Lightning Talk (4–6 minutes) or a Poster Presentation; each contribution must be delivered by an individually registered attendee. Lightning Talks will be the primary format to broaden participation and ensure ample time for discussion and Q&A. We look forward to your submission and participation at the symposium.
