The 2026 NHERI Computational Symposium Organizing Committee is pleased to announce that Dr. Helen Crowley and Dr. Seth Guikema will serve as keynote speakers at the Fourth Annual NHERI Computational Symposium, “Innovation Through Collaboration,” to be held May 28–29, 2026, at the University of California, Berkeley.
Dr. Helen Crowley, Secretary General of the Global Earthquake Model (GEM) Foundation, is an internationally recognized expert in earthquake engineering and risk assessment. Her work leads global efforts to improve seismic risk models, inform disaster‑risk reduction policies, and support the development of resilient communities worldwide.
Dr. Seth Guikema, Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering and Industrial and Operations Engineering at the University of Michigan, and Co‑Director of the Center for Risk Analysis Informed Decision Engineering (RAIDE), is a leading researcher in risk analysis, infrastructure resilience, and decision‑making under uncertainty. His multidisciplinary work integrates data analytics, simulation, and social considerations to guide equitable resilience strategies.
Together, Dr. Crowley and Dr. Guikema bring global and cross‑disciplinary perspectives to this year’s Symposium theme, “Innovation Through Collaboration.” Attendees will gain insights into how advances in computational modeling and simulation can inform risk reduction, adaptation, and community resilience across natural‑hazard domains.
Join us in welcoming our keynote speakers and look forward to their thought‑provoking presentations at UC Berkeley.
