SimCenter participated in the workshop "Regional Scale Simulated Ground Motion Database (SGMD) for the San Francisco Bay Area" on March 24, 2025, at UC Berkeley. Hosted by the Pacific Earthquake Engineering Research Center and Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, the community workshop provided technical information about the regional-scale database for simulation and implementation. The event convened technical experts and presentations to inform both the research and infrastructure stakeholder communities.

Frank McKenna, SimCenter Chief Technology Officer, delivered the presentation "Simulated Motion Applications with SimCenter R2D for Regional Damage Estimation," which outlined the following:

  • SimCenter's modular simulation platform for different user levels,
  • Using BRAILS++ to generate probabilistic asset inventories for regional simulations,
  • The R2D research application using computational simulation to assess the regional system (building inventory, water or transportation systems) performance when subjected to a hazard, and simulating recovery using supply and demand of resources over time and their interdependencies, and
  • The function of testbeds and how the regional-scale simulated ground motion database can be integrated into a regional-scale assessment using the SimCenter tools.
