The NHERI Computational Symposium, held on February 5-7, 2025, at the UCLA Luskin Conference Center, convened over 240 researchers and industry practitioners from a broad range of natural hazards engineering and social science disciplines. The symposium provided a platform for collaboration and knowledge sharing in fields such as wind, flood, wildfire, tsunami and storm surge, earthquake, uncertainty quantification, multi-hazards, community impacts, and related areas.

Key event statistics:

  • 147 Presentations: Included 2 keynotes, 6 spotlights, and information about SimCenter and DesignSafe resources. Lightning presentations highlighted key research findings.
  • 46 Poster Presentations: Showcased research projects and initiatives aimed at mitigating the impact of natural hazards.
  • 5 Breakout sessions: Featured SimCenter Tools, RAPID capabilities, and DesignSafe resources.
  • 2 Technical Training Workshops: Attracted 85 participants interested in enhancing their skills and knowledge in specific areas supported by RAPID, DesignSafe, and SimCenter.

The success of the NHERI Computational Symposium was made possible by the support of the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF). Their contributions facilitated the gathering of experts to address critical issues in natural hazards engineering.
