Kareem Receives Recognitions from IABSE and EAJ

Dr. Ahsan Kareem, SimCenter co-PI, and Robert M. Moran Professor of Engineering and Director of the Natural Hazards Modeling Lab at the University of Notre Dame, received the International Award of Merit in Structural Engineering 2020 for “fundamental contributions to quantification, modeling and analysis of wind load effects in structural design through research, teaching, service and practice” by the International Association of Bridge and Structural Engineering (IABSE). Additionally, Dr. Kareem has been elected to the Engineering Academy of Japan (EAJ) as a foreign associate. EAJ is composed of leading experts from academia, industry, and government institutions. Since its establishment in 1987, the EAJ has grown to approximately 800 individual Japanese members and 14 foreign associates, including 5 from the United States. Dr. Kareem holds the unprecedented distinction of being theonly individual who has been elected to the US National Academy of Engineering, Chinese Academy of Engineering, Indian Academy of Engineering, and the Engineering Academy of Japan.
