Visiting Researcher Program


The SimCenter invites researchers to work closely with SimCenter staff and colleagues on their computational research through the on-site Visiting Scholars Program at UC Berkeley. The SimCenter is particularly interested in hosting researchers who require expanding, enhancing, or adapting the SimCenter’s research tools. These applications address basic and advanced modeling, analysis and simulation needs across Natural Hazards and directly incorporate Uncertainty Quantification (UQ).

Visiting Researcher Eligibility Criteria

  • Researchers must have completed undergraduate coursework and may be Masters or Doctoral degree students. Scholars may also be at the post doctoral, Ph.D. level.
  • Proposed research must fit closely with the SimCenter's mission.
  • Initial term must be at least one month and no more than one year in duration.
  • Must show proof of self funding, i.e., adequate housing stipend from home educational institution.
  • May not be UCB staff or faculty.

For SimCenter Visiting Researcher inquiries email Associate Director Matt Schoettler. We strongly urge potential scholars to begin the inquiry process at least three months or more before the expected arrival date in Berkeley.

Fees

University Services fee: $750 for Visiting Researchers, $1000 for Visiting Student Researchers This fee covers a Cal email address, ID card, library and university facility access, and more. To encourage broad participation, the SimCenter will consider need-based justifications during the application process to assist with this expense.
