Regional Earthquake Workflow

The Regional Earthquake Workflow is an Application Framework developed by the SimCenter for creating Scientific Workflow Applications to study the effects of earthquakes on society at the regional scale. Two Scientific Workflow Applications demonstrate this framework and utilize either HPC resources at DesignSafe-CI for large-scale simulations or local computational resources for testing, development, and smaller-scale simulations. The extensible Application Framework presents an opportunity for community development to enhance simulation capabilities and tackle complex scientific questions in natural hazards research. Parties interested in expanding workflow capabilities should contact NHERI-SimCenter@berkeley.edu. The workflow applications are seeded with ground motion tools to show extensibility and provide resources that inspire research activities. A testbed example provides a demonstration of the workflow applications. This uses the results of a simulated magnitude 7.0 earthquake on the Hayward fault to estimate downtime & loss for every building in the San Francisco Bay Area.
